A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 83 after a brief illness.

Allen was born July 18, 1940, to the late Ulysses and Sarah Hughes in Bristol, Virginia. Allen was a graduate of Douglass High School in 1958. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Allen was a sergeant in the US Army and fought in the Vietnam War. His community memberships consisted of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion.

Allen worked for Bristol Steel and Carolina Steel. After retirement, he worked part-time at Bristol Virginia Social Services.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Hughes; daughter, Allison Denise Hughes; brothers, David Hughes and Jack Hughes; and sisters, Bettye Jo Hughes and Jean Hughes.

Allen is survived by his sons, Allen Hughes Jr. and Landon Richmond (Knoxville, TN); daughters, Robin Hughes (Richmond, VA) and Kisha Richmond (Knoxville, TN); several grand and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Barbara Lewis. Allen will truly be missed by the host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and associates he leaves behind.
