Obituary

Allen K. Hughes Jr., a.k.a. "Knock Knock", known for his warm heart, quick wit, and quiet strength, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the age of 59, surrounded by the love of his family. A loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend went to be with the Lord and was reunited with his parents.

Allen was a man of contrasts — funny and caring, always ready with a smirk that spoke louder than words, yet often the quietest in the room. He had a natural gift for making others feel comfortable, and though introverted at times, he built deep and lasting connections with those who knew him. Allen also served his country in the US Army, following in the footsteps of his father, Allen Knox Hughes Sr.

A true lover of life's simple joys, Allen cherished time spent with family and friends, always finding comfort in togetherness. Music was his constant companion, filling his days with rhythm and soul. He also had a soft spot for dogs, whose loyal companionship reflected his own gentle and loving spirit.

Allen's presence was one of steady kindness — the type of presence that didn't demand attention but left an unforgettable impact. To his loved ones, he will always be remembered as a roamer at heart, a quiet observer of the world, and someone who showed love through actions more than words.

He leaves behind a family and circle of friends who will forever carry his memory with laughter, love, and music. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Roberta Hughes Sr., and his sister, Allison Denise Hughes.

Allen is survived by his sons, Derek L. Hurt and Deon A. Hughes; sister, Robin Hughes (Richmond, VA); brother, Landon Richmond (Knoxville, TN); sister, Kisha Richmond (Knoxville, TN); 4 beautiful granddaughters whom he adored, Bella Hurt, Lotus-Bliss Hurt, Zhuri Hughes, and Zamora Hughes; nephew, Donovan Johnson (Richmond, VA); and aunt, Barbara Lewis. Allen will be truly missed by a host of cousins, friends, and associates he leaves behind. Though he may no longer be physically with us, his spirit will continue to shine in the lives he touched.
