Anita Louise Lundy Charles of Bristol, Virginia, transitioned from her earthly life the morning of Friday, January 23, 2026, at the home of her sister Penny Walker, in Bristol, Tennessee, where she endured a lengthy illness.

Known by many as "Ann" and others as "Annie" she was the oldest of eight children. She is preceded in death by her father, Roberto "Bob" Lundy, her stepfather Alvin Hagan Kane, Sr., and her mother Doris Marie Alexander Kane. In addition to parents and grandparents, she is also preceded in death by her brothers Alvin "Butch" Kane, and James "Tommy" Kane; two sisters Charlotte Bunaugh and Clara Harris; and grandson, Tyree' King.

Ann was born in Bristol, Tennessee where she lived until 1947, where after Doris united with Hagan Kane she became part of a new family in Gate City, Virginia. She attended Prospect School before going to Morristown, Tennessee for high school. During that time, she met and had a brief marriage to Richard Monroe. After which she returned to Gate City.

In 1959 the family moved to Vienna, Virginia. After a couple of years and the birth of her first son, Eric, she decided to move to Bristol, Virginia to start a new life around other family members. After a short stay with Aunt Janie Paris, she moved into an apartment in Johnson Court. There she met Don Charles and their union gave them Chad and Michelle Charles. Anitra was adopted into the family shortly after her birth. She was very well known and loved by the Johnson Court community. During that time, she also took classes at Virginia Intermont College and completed two and a half years of studies toward a Psychology Degree.

Around 1980 Ann moved her family back to Vienna and soon moved into a home in Chantilly, Virginia. She joined the workforce of Fairfax County Public Schools and continued there until her retirement. Ann decided to move back to Bristol, in the Charles family home, with three of her grandchildren around 2004, where she attended many churches in the Bristol community before joining Mount Carmel Gospel Church under the leadership of Reverend William Hampton. She was the oldest member and continued in service there until her death.

Ann leaves to celebrate her life, her husband Don Charles; children, James Eric Monroe, Chad Allen Charles, Michelle Lania Charles, and Anitra Tamu Daggs-Hurd (Allen). 16 grandchildren: Nina Campbell (Mohammed), Jasmine Bernard, Jamila Bernard, Jalicia Bernard, Jessica Madison (Charles), Darren Charles, Don A. Charles, II, Asia Charles, Casel Charles, Christian Moore, Kody Bonds, Cheyenne Bonds, Anisia Daggs, Quentyn Daggs, Jeremiah Daggs, and Dontae Daggs. 19 Great-grandchildren; one sister: Kathleen "Penny" Walker; two brothers: Martin "Michael" Kane (Vanessa) and Jonathan "Jonny" Kane; very special sister-in-law Ella A. Kane; 15 nieces and 13 nephews; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. Recognition is also given to our neighbors and friends in Chantilly, Virginia; the Cumberbatch and VanMartin families, especially. We have enjoyed many years of friendship with them.
