Betty Octavia "Taye" Hampton departed this life on August 13, 2025, in Kingsport, Tennessee.  She was born on November 18, 1962, to Clarence Tarter and Betty Jane Fain in Rogersville, Tennessee.

Betty graduated from Cherokee High School and went on to attend East Tennessee State University. After college, she began her 13-year career at Eastman Chemical, where she cherished her role as a Training Coordinator. She later served as a long-time coordinator for the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency, where she fulfilled her calling by protecting and promoting others through state grants and initiatives. She most recently worked as a Program Director at the YMCA, where her commitment to uplifting and serving her community continued to shine.

A fierce advocate for those who could not speak up for themselves, Betty poured her heart into every role she held, whether professional or personal. She was a woman of many gifts. She was an artist who loved to draw, an avid reader, and a servant-leader through volunteer work. She was also a published author of "Dropping the Charges: Forgiveness is Justice."

Octavia especially loved to sing for God, using her voice as an instrument to connect others to Him through music. Above all, she was the most generous woman you could meet, always making the least of us feel like the biggest and best of us.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Jean Fain; her father, Clarence Tarter; and her brother, Clarence Tarter Jr.

To cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love, Betty leaves behind her daughters, Jessica Hampton and Jacqueline Hampton; her grandchildren, Joshua, Jahylen, and Adrianna Hampton, who were her pride and joy; her siblings, Johnny Dennis (Mary Barbara Dennis), Isaac "Lee" Fain (Alice Fain), Veronica "Red" Fain, Eddie Fain, and Linda Coffey; and a wide circle of family and friends whose lives were deeply touched by her.
