Clyde A. Nophlin, Sr. (64) passed away peacefully on June 28, 2023. He was a retired Army Drill Sergeant of 23 years. While serving in Germany, he gave his life to the Lord in Herbon-Seelbach in 1981. He was inspirational in the building of Household Of Faith Community Church, 412 Oakview Ave. Bristol, Va. Clyde Sr. was a trustee and a deacon until his departure. He was married to Rev. Jacqueline L. Nophlin in 1980 in Tacoma, Washington, for a union of 33 years. They had two children, Erica A. Nophlin and Clyde A. Nophlin, both of Bristol.

Clyde (Nop-Nop) was known for singing "Walk Around Heaven" as no one else could. He sang with the group Gospel Echoes in the early 90's. He was employed by Eastman Chemical Company for nine years. He attended John Hopkins University, where he pre-tested and never took the test. He was highly intelligent. Later he moved to Waynesboro, Va., and worked at Hershey's Factory as a supervisor before retiring in 2019 due to illness. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, Major Mattison; mother, Carrie Nophlin; and siblings, Frances Nophlin, Tyrone Nophlin, and Sylvia Nophlin.

He leaves to mourn his daughter, Erica A. Nophlin; son, Clyde A. Nophlin Jr.; granddaughters, Jayda Imani Nophlin Anderson and Amaris Laela Nophlin Anderson; Rev. Jackie Nophlin; wife, Beverly Nophlin of Staunton, VA; siblings, William Nophlin of Herrington, Delaware, Faye Nophlin Fulcher of Baltimore, MD, Cecelia Mattison Nophlin Whitley of Staunton VA, Donald Mattison of Baltimore, MD, Kevin Mattison of Baltimore, MD, and Alice Mattison Wallace of Baltimore, MD; special niece, Shavon Gray of Baltimore, MD; sister-in-law, Wanda Washington of Bristol, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
