David Allen Johnson was born in Bristol, Virginia, on March 18, 1955, to the late Major Henry Johnson Sr. and Lucy Isabell Lee Hill-Johnson. He departed this life on May 27, 2023, at Viviant Healthcare of Bristol.

David grew up in Bristol, Virginia, and graduated from Virginia High School. While there, he played on the football and basketball teams. Following high school David served in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Major Henry Johnson Sr. and Lucy Isabell Lee Hill-Johnson.

David is survived by his four children, two daughters, Nicole Gudger of Bristol, TN and Ebonne Johnson of Kingsport, TN; two sons, Devin Johnson of Kingsport, TN, and Keenan Johnson of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Journie Gudger, and Devante Johnson; four siblings, Patricia L. Lowe, Major H. Johnson Jr., Teressa A. Johnson, and Pamela R. Johnson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and special cousins, Brazil (Bunny) Dukes, Chris Hunt-Brenton (Dave), and Michelle Lyons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johnson City or Bristol, Tennessee VFW, or the Alzheimer's Association.
