James Alexander Cash, affectionately known as "Chip," departed this life on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. He was born on September 22, 1954, to Elsie Louise and Fred Neil Cash.
James attended West High School and later continued his education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He played football at both institutions and carried a lifelong love for the game. He was an avid Tennessee Titans fan and also rooted for the Alabama Crimson Tide. James enjoyed watching Andy Griffith and old gangster movies. He was dedicated to his family and was a loyal friend. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Louise and Fred Neil Cash; his wife, Deborah Ball Cash; his sisters, Geneva "Cookie" Cash Mills and Clara Nell Louise Cash; and his niece, Dana Michelle Cash.
To cherish his memory, James leaves behind his step-children, Samantha (Daniel) Hicks and Natalie Ball; step-grandchildren, Isaac Hicks, Dallas Hicks, and Donté Ball; brother, Fred "Dump" (Janice) Cash ; nephew, Verlin Cash; nieces, Denitra "Buffy" Cash and Rilesha Holloway; great-nephews, Verlin "Digger" Cash, Vershaun Cash, Ahmonye "MeeMee" Cash, and Veion "PeeWee" Cash; great-nieces, Danaejiah Ramsey and Samiyah Cash; special friend, Chris Singleton; and many more cousins and friends.
