Janie Mae Smith Gist departed this life on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Janie was born on October 31, 1948, in Columbus, Mississippi.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, John Pondexter, Bertha Lee, and Sarah Lee; son-in-law, Brian Swanson; brother, Willie Smith; niece, Michelle Pondexter; and sister-in-law, Esther Smith.

To cherish her memory, Janie leaves behind her husband, James Gist; daughters, Sherry Swanson and Sean Gist; grandchildren, Zhanine (William) Brooks, Vennice Kennedy, Ethan Broyls, and Misjanie Swanson; great-grandchildren, Kennedi Brooks and Bryten Brooks; sister, Grace Prather; niece, Rochelle (Ricardo) Johnson; nephews, Charlet (Adam) Pondexter-Johnson and Thomas Pondexter; her fur baby, Baby; and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service for Ms. Janie Mae Gist will be conducted on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 1 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2049 E. Stonebrook Place, Kingsport, Tennessee.
