Obituary

Mr. John Douglas "Scrooge" Gudger 71, of 246 McDowell St. passed Sunday April 17, 2016 at Wellmont Hospice House. Johnny was born on October 20, 1944 to Jessie C. Gudger Sr. and Ms. Dorothy M. Boozer.

He worked for many years at VI College and retired from King College. He attended John Wesley United Methodist Church and Slater High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John Fitzy Gudger, Two brother, Jessie C. Gudger Jr., Timothy D. Gudger, stepbrother John Boozer Jr. two sister, Ms. Eulalie M. Matthews and Ms. Joan R. Bussey.

Survivors include his loyal companion of 24 years, Ms. Charlotte Duff, four brothers, Donald O. Gudger, Robert W. Gudger, Octavious D. Gudger, Samuel E. Gudger, three sisters Ms. Drucilla (John) Hogans, Ms. Patricia Hubbard, Ms. Mattie R. Wilson, his sons mother Ms. Betty W. Gudger, special daughter Ms. Sandy Poore and Ms. Kathy Joe Stinchcomb, seven grandchildren, five aunts, two uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank James Mead, Jackson Mead, Michael Mead, the staff and nurses of the Wellmont Cancer Center and the Hospice House for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol or the Cancer Association of Bristol, TN.

Memorial services will be conducted at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 311 Lee St. Bristol Va. Saturday April 23, 2016 at 1:00pm. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until the hour of service.
