Obituary

Margaret "Henny" was born on October 19, 1944, in Chilhowie, VA, to the late Albert and Inez Goode. She graduated from Carnegie School in the Spring of 1962. Afterward, she attended Clinton College in Rock Hill, SC. After her return to Chilhowie, she returned to her home church—Chilhowie Baptist Church—where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She also continued attending Mt. Zion Church in Chilhowie and Marion, VA, where she later became a full member. One evening in February 1973, she was baptized in the name of Jesus; and, later received the gift of the Holy Ghost at a revival preached by Elder David Braziel.

On November 27, 1970, Margaret married the late James E. Turner, Sr. They were blessed with 45 years of marriage, seven children, and a shared love for spontaneous vacations. In 1980, the couple packed up their life and moved to Kingsport, TN. With 44 years of membership at Mount Zion Tabernacle Holiness Church, Margaret served in the following capacities: Prayer Band, Kitchen committee, Worship leader, Minister, Altar worker, Choir Director for the Sunshine and Sunflower Choirs, and started Children in Praise. Her favorite role of all was serving as a Missionary, where she witnessed to many—especially those in nursing homes and who were shut in. As a faithful West Virginia and East Tennessee Council member, she served as an Assistant Secretary for the Women's Ministry under her daughter's presidency.

Margaret's lineage has known her for having a diverse career experience. Her favorite and most impactful career was serving as the High School Teacher and Principal for Lighthouse Christian School. All of her students would say she was known for her many candid remarks and proverbial sayings. Towards the end of her life, she found joy in working the concession stands for Kingsport Parks and Recreation's baseball and basketball games.

As we celebrate the life of Margaret, we are comforted to know that while she is absent from us, she is present with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Inez Goode; husband, James E. Turner Sr.; daughters, Nannette C. Wilburn and NaRasha N. Turner; brothers, Albert W. Goode Jr. and Clinton "Pop" Goode; and sister, Shirley E. Hawkins.
