Mary Jo Walker Lavergne was born February 7, 1946, in Poland, Louisiana, to the late Albert Walker, Jr., and Beatrice Bowie Walker.

A TIME TO DIE
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, she left this world for her Heavenly home.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Huey A Walker, Sr. (Gladys), Alvin E. Walker (April), Herbert Walker (Jessie), James Walker (Virgie), and Dorothy J. (Leroy Sr.) Wilkinson.

A TIME TO BUILD
Mary Jo professed her hope in Christ and was baptized at the age of seven under the leadership of Rev. William Taft Bowie at St. Mark Methodist Church in Magda, Louisiana, which later became St. Mark United Methodist Church. She has served as a member of First United Methodist Church in Ozark, Arkansas, John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bristol, Virginia, and Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Coeburn, Virginia. As a dedicated and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, she was a Youth Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Chancellory Choir. As a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Gospel Choir, Co-Coordinator for the UMVF, and Vice President of the United Methodist Women, which is now United Women in Faith. At Mt. Zion Baptist Church, she was Secretary/Clerk for five years, a member of the Adult Choir, and secretary of the Women's Missionary. Mary Jo's community and civic services consisted of serving as President of the Ladies Co-Workers Club of Norton, Virginia. In 2000, she moved back to Bristol, Tennessee, where she remained a member of John Wesley UMC.

Mary Jo was a devoted wife and mother. She was married to Albert Lavergne, Jr., and to their union, two lovely children were born, Adrian Anthony Lavergne Sr. and Travis Wade (Rebecca) Lavergne.
In addition to cherish her memories, she leaves her sister, Mary Lee (Albert) Jackson; sister-in-law, Sandra Kay Guillory; seven grandchildren, Adrian Anthony Lavergne, Jr., Marcus Wade Lavergne, JaRon Lavergne, JaSon Lavergne, Joseph R. Lavergne, Sage Lavergne, and Devaugn Lavergne; six great-grandchildren; one godchild, Rodney Wayne Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
