Mitchell Odell Clark, or "Mitch" as he was sometimes called, was born on July 4, 1932, as the second child and first son to Mitchell and Nora Hayes Clark in Saltville, Virginia. On Monday, November 14, 2022, Mitchell, at age 90, passed away after a hard battle with congestive heart failure, at the Veteran's Hospice Hospital, in Lake City, Florida.

He attended school in the Tennessee public education system, and after graduating from high school, he went on to study at a West Virginia college. He then served in the United States Army in the early 1950s. Thereafter, Mitch relocated to New York City, where he was employed in various jobs, including the position of City Housing Inspector, for the Department of Housing Preservation and Development in Manhattan until his retirement.

Soon after the move to New York, he met Jacquelyn S. Copeland, and they were wed in 1958. To this union, three children were born. A second marriage produced a fourth child, a second son.

Odell had a heart for travel. He visited many locations and took many sightseeing photos in the United States, the Caribbean, Mexico, and London. He was most definitely an avid New York Jets football fan. He shared this passion with his youngest son, who has, in turn passed the
"Jets" fever on to his son.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, his elder sister Blanche Wilson, his younger sister Barbara Odoms, and his brother Richard Clark.

He is survived by his children Mychelle Clark of Williston, Florida, Melanie Clark of the Bronx, New York, David C. Clark (Tonia) of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Marcus Clark (Victoria) of District Heights, Maryland; six grandchildren, Fiona Kelly, Courtney Clark, Christeena Clark, Miles Rockafeler, Violet Clark and Kent Clark; five great-grandchildren, Amijah January, J'Sean January, Easton Moore, Zora Clark, and Zandra Clark; younger sisters, Julia Lee of Maryland and Joyce Songui of Brooklyn, New York; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

"God saw the road was getting rough and steps were hard to climb so he gently whispered in Mitchell's ear, Peace, Sweet Peace Be Mine".

The family will receive friends Monday, November 21, 2022, from 11 am until noon at Lee St. Baptist Church Bristol, Va. Interment will follow at the VA National Cemetery, Mt. Home, TN.

Graveside services for Mr. Mitchell Clark will be conducted Monday, November 21, 2022 at 1 pm from Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. The family will receive friends from 11 am until noon at Lee Street Baptist Church, 1 W. Mary St. Bristol, VA. The cortege will depart from Lee Street Baptist Church in procession to the cemetery.
