Sherry Lee Swanson departed this life on Friday, September 8, 2023. She was born on March 25, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois.

Sherry graduated with the class of 1987 from Harlan High School, where she played basketball for two years, and ran track for one year. Sherry was a very loving and creative person and a hard worker. She was always full of smiles, and she loved to dance and spend time with her family. She loved her movies as well. Sherry would help anyone who needed it without hesitation, especially her family and close friends.

Sherry was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sara Lee Kennedy; parents, Janie Mae Gist and Merrill Mills; husband, Brian James Swanson; uncle, Willie W. Smith; and her cousin, Michelle Pondexter.

To cherish her memory, Sherry leaves behind her children, Zhanine (William) Brooks, Vennice Kennedy, Sean Gist, Ethan Broyls, and MisJanie Swanson; brother, Merrill Mills Jr.; step-father, James Gist; grandchildren, Kennedi Brooks, Bryten-Early Brooks, Niasia Brooks, and Allani; aunt, Grace Prather; cousins, Rochelle (Ricardo) Johnson, Charlet (Adam) Johnson-Pondexter, and Thomas Pondexter; her special companion, Monty; her very special friends, Dianna Duff Brevard, Troy Body, Nikki (Jerome) Patterson; and a host of more family and friends.
