Vera Leigh "Sissy" Dixon-Horton departed this life Tuesday, August 13, 2024. She was born on May 4, 1963, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Willie Mae Cook and James Watlington.

Vera graduated from Mullins High School and became an admissions clerk at Holston Valley. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Vera was admired for her joyful and compassionate spirit. She loved her family and being able to spend time with them. She also enjoyed crocheting, listening to music, and watching her crime television shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae Cook and James Watlington; husband, Anthony Horton; and brothers, Bill Dixon, Mike Dixon, Donny Dixon, and James Dixon.

To cherish her memory, Vera leaves behind her children, Javonte Shellings, Abril Dixon, Tony Horton Jr., Tonya Horton, Toya Williams, and Amanda Horton; grandchildren, Onalycia Woodson, Myisha Roberson, Brandon Turner, Larry Turner, Avery Horton, and Olivia Horton; siblings, Marvin Dixon, Junie Watlington, Rena Lewis, Wallace Watlington, and William Watlington; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
