William Thomas Burks Sr., also known as "Tommy" or "Poppie," of Bristol, Virginia, departed this Earth on Monday, September 15, 2025, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.

William was born on April 6, 1944, in New River, Virginia. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He loved to read and spend time with his family. He served in the United States Army as a Medical Specialist for 5 years. He was also a Truck Driver and a Lumber Supervisor.

He is preceded in death by his father, William G. Burks; mother, Mamie Lorraine Black; daughter, Cathy Burks; and siblings, Bobby Burks, Helen B. Smith, James Burks, Robert Burks, Michael Burks, and Ronnie Burks.

To cherish his memory, William leaves behind his wife of 19 years, Thelma Delaney Burks; son, William T. Burks Jr.; step-children, Deloris Bristol (Walter), Jerome Delaney (Kathy), Gene Delaney, Thomas Delaney, Benita Delaney, and Anthony White; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Daryl Burks, Mable Davenport, Teronia Burks, Carolyn Burks, Perry Burks, and Velma Burks; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all the hospital staff and friends for their support and compassion.
